Student Health Insurance
Massachusetts state law requires every full- or part-time student enrolled in any institution of higher learning in the state to participate in a qualifying student health insurance program or a health benefit plan with comparable coverage.
Students who are already covered by a health insurance plan MUST visit the University Health Plans website to waive MassArt's health insurance annually.
You must be enrolled for at least 9 credits and in a degree-granting program to be eligible for the school health insurance plan. All matriculated students - undergraduate, graduate and certificate students - registered for 9 or more credits who do not waive the insurance online via University Health Plans will be automatically billed for health insurance.
Please note that if you are currently insured by Commonwealth Care or Health SafetyNet, you cannot waive and must enroll in the MassArt student health insurance plan.
Unless you are an exchange student, MassArt does not accept international health insurance. All international students must enroll in the MassArt student health insurance plan.
The basic purpose of the school insurance is to provide protection for students from the large and unpredictable costs of medical care that are incurred during serious illness and accidents. Coverage extends for a full calendar year, from August 1 to July 31. The cost of the MassArt student health insurance plan for the 2012-13 academic year is $1,261.
In addition, health insurance allows students to have a primary care physician (PCP) in the Boston area as well as to obtain access to additional services not provided by health services.
