Student Health Insurance
Massachusetts law requires every full- or part-time student enrolled in any institution of higher learning in the state to participate in a qualifying student health insurance program or a health benefit plan with comparable coverage.
Private insurance plan members MUST visit the University Health Plans website to waive MassArt's health insurance annually.
You must be enrolled for at least 9 credits and in a degree-granting program. All undergraduate students with at least 9 credits who do not waive via University Health Plans will be automatically billed. If you are enrolled in a certificate or graduate program, you must return a waiver form to be enrolled in the insurance plan.
Please note that if you are currently insured by a plan that is offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (i.e., MassHealth, Commonwealth Care, Network Health, etc.), you are still required to obtain student health insurance coverage. Should you have any questions, call health services at 617 879 7760.
International health insurance is not accepted. All international students must participate in the qualifying school sponsored health insurance program, no exceptions.
The basic purpose of the school insurance is to provide protection for students from the large and unpredictable costs of medical care that are incurred during serious illness and accidents. Coverage extends for a full calendar year, from August 1 to July 31 and costs $1,281.
In addition, health insurance allows students to have a primary care physician (PCP) in the Boston area as well as to obtain access to additional services not provided by health services.
