Smith Hall houses first-year students in suite-style living spaces of 3 to 5 students. It is staffed with a full-time, professional, live-in residence director and trained student resident assistants who provide support for the residence hall community while overseeing a thriving program of activities and events. Professional security personnel, on duty 24 hours a day, check the identification of individuals entering the building.
The building's innovative design includes studio workrooms and quiet rooms on each floor. A common room, game room/TV lounge, complete kitchen and laundry facilities, student mailboxes, and bulletin boards for messages for upcoming events are all located on the first floor. Other Smith Hall amenities include high-speed Internet access, local telephone service/voicemail and basic cable television. The building is smoke-free and handicapped accessible. Students residing in Smith Hall participate in a full meal plan. Bus and subway stops are conveniently located just outside on Huntington Avenue.
Only first-time college students who have been offered a place in the Foundation Program at MassArt are invited to live in Smith Hall. Completed residence hall applications must be received by the Office of Housing and Residence Life on or before May 1 in order to guarantee a space in the residence hall.
