International Student Resources

The International Education Center fosters a campus culture that fully supports MassArt's vibrant international student community. We are committed to helping international students adjust and thrive during their time living and studying in the United States.

We offer personalized support, visa advising, and cultural programming. Some of our annual events include International Education Week and English language conversation groups.

International MassArt Students

If you are a full time, degree seeking, international student, please contact Maggie Shirland ( with questions regarding your I-20, visa, permission to work, or other questions related to your F-1 student status.  Please note that Maggie is part-time and may not respond right away.

Incoming Exchange Students

If you are an incoming, semester-long exchange student or applicant planning to studying at MassArt for one semester, please see below for instructions or contact Amy Holland ( or 617-879-7717) with questions.

Below is some general information but please visit the Exchange Coordinator on your home campus for the latest information and application.

DEADLINES: Fall semester (September-December): April 1st

                    Spring Semester (January-May): October 1st

DEPARTMENTS AND COURSES: Please visit the MassArt website for information on departments to which you can apply. Typically, accepted exchange students are placed into the sophomore or junior level of the department to which they are accepted depending on the student's portfolio. For a list of the courses being offered, please visit the Davinci website and select "Students" then "Search for sections." Not all courses are open to exchange students and we can not guarantee placement in any specific class.   

APPLICATION: Please visit the Studio Abroad website and create a login to begin your application. More info on how to use the website can be found here. In addition to some academic and biographical information, you will be asked to submit a portfolio, a statement of purpose and a copy of an official transcript.  Be sure to check with the Exchange Coordinator at your home institution before applying. You will not be able to complete an application without their consent.

Welcome to the MassArt community! Please see your acceptance letter for the most up-to-date information on housing, insurance and your visa. You will need to complete the next phase on the Studio Abroad website and you can find more instructions there too.
