Name That Place
The Name of the New Residence Hall is up to you!
The New Residence Hall for Massachusetts College of Art and Design was conceived with the collaborative input of the students, faculty and staff, as a refreshing, artful, new building along the Avenue of the Arts. The new residence hall has 21 floors with 17 residential floors that will house 493 students, a health center and a full floor dedicated to student recreation (kitchen, fitness, lounge, pool table, laundry) with a variety of amenities. It will house first year and sophomore students in creative, social, on-campus learning environments that extend from the student suites to the landscaped public plaza near the main entrance. Inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt's "Lebensbaum" (The Tree of Life), the building is designed to be sustainable with a high degree of environmental sensitivity through day-lighting and natural ventilation.
Additionally, commissioned art from several prominent alumni artists, Nicole Chesney, Tim Murdoch, Natalie Miebach, and Clint Baclawski, will be installed throughout floors 1 through 3, and work purchased through the MassArt auction will placed throughout the rest of the building.
The college asks the MassArt matriculating undergraduate and graduate student population to create a name that reflects the following: The mission of the college, the MassArt community, and its' location on the Avenue of the Arts
The name should be:
- Appropriate for a residence hall.
- Align and support MassArt's reputation and mission.
- Reflect MassArt's community of students.
- Be a great representation of MassArt to the public.
The winner will receive:
A weekend penthouse package for two in the new residence hall in the summer of 2013. They will receive a basket of goodies in their room from Chartwells, a $25 Gift Certificate to the MassArt bookstore and a $50 gift certificate to The Mission courtesy of Student Development.
