Students who seek expertise in a particular area may enroll in one of four certificate programs. Certificate courses are taught by MassArt faculty and provide students with the solid professional skills required to enter the workforce as a practicing designer.
This design certificate program covers fashion fundamentals such as pattern drafting and fashion illustration, as well as specific applications including costume and handbag design, millinery, and tailoring.
Offered in partnership with North Bennet Street School, the furniture design program teaches students how to design and build unique studio furniture, limited production pieces, and prototype furniture. Students are also introduced to the area of contract furniture.
Students develop their skills in typography and imagery integration to clearly communicate information. Course work explores the formal elements of design including composition, color, texture, and shape.
Industrial Design certificate students gain a solid foundation in the design process, from research and concept sketching to presentation and fabrication. Students develop expertise in both drawing techniques and scale-model making.
