Hours: Monday - Saturday, 12:00 - 6:00pm • Wednesday: 12:00 - 8:00pm
The Bakalar & Paine Galleries at MassArt are the largest free contemporary art space in New England. Showcasing work by emerging and established artists and designers in all media they serve as a public cultural and educational resource. Frequently recognized by the press for their thought-provoking and unique exhibitions, Boston Magazine named the Galleries’ Director and Curator, Lisa Tung, Boston’s Best Curator in 2012.
The Galleries present a diverse array of media—from painting, design, and photography to sculpture, installation, and performance art—and the department often commissions and debuts new artworks realized with the help of our talented students and MassArt’s world-class facilities.
For students, the Galleries offer numerous job opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students including curatorial, art handling, installation, and education positions. Former student employees have gone on to work for museums and galleries including the Guggenheim, MoMA, and Whitney Museum in New York and Institute of Contemporary Art, Samsøn Projects, and Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston.

DRAW/Boston brings together the private sketches of nearly four dozen artists from around the world in an exhibition that provides a revealing look into both the drawing process and the artists' innermost thoughts.
Everyday and ethereal, utilitarian and magical, glass has served as vessel, window, mirror, and sculptural medium for nearly five millennia.
