Guest Information

Parking

General parking will be available in the MassArt parking lot on Ward Street and the Wentworth Institute parking lot on Ruggles Avenue. Both lots are directly across Huntington Avenue from the Tower building. The Green "E" line subway and the 39 buses also stop directly at the college where there is limited, metered on-street parking in the area. There will be a drop-off area for family members with physical disabilities or wheelchairs and limited parking is available in the special HP parking area beside the Tower building on Evans Way. If you or a guest requires use of these limited spaces, contact Robert Chambers at (617) 879-7751. Access to this area may be gained from the officer on duty at the barricades near the entrance.

Seating

Seating for guests in Evans Park will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The chairs are in the grassy area, and comfortable shoes should be worn for navigating the natural unevenness of the ground. New England weather is fickle in May and we could see sunburns or hear chattering teeth. It is recommended that you bring appropriate apparel as deemed by weather forecasts. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in the gymnasium where seating is limited to 2 guests per candidate and is accessible only by a ticket. Remaining guests will be seated in the Tower Auditorium (no ticket necessary) where there will be live video/audio feeds of the ceremony. Candidates, please talk with your guests well in advance of flight purchases about this provision. We regret that we cannot accommodate all candidates in the gymnasium, but safety concerns and state fire codes prevent it.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are located in the entrance of the gymnasium (adjacent to the park). First aid assistance is available in the public safety office next to the gymnasium.

Reception

After commencement, students are free to continue celebrating with family and friends in their own way. MassArt will be hosting a reception with light refreshments at Evans Way park. Family members and guests of our graduates are invited to join President Sloan for a meet and greet with faculty and staff members. You are also welcome to view one of the following shows, which will be on display in our galleries:

  • Senior Show in the Paine Gallery, South building
  • MFA Thesis Show in the Bakalar Gallery, South building
  • Commencement Honorees Show in the President's Gallery, Tower building
